Naomi turned 16 last year which meant when Formal Dance season rolled around this spring she was only to happy to jump in head first.
The first formal was a multi-stake dance for our church with the theme “Northern Lights.” She’s known for a while she wanted a forest green dress and we had to order twice to get the one she was actually happy with. Silly Amazon. The second dance was her school’s Prom…theme “Wonderland Tea Party”. Well naturally she wanted to lean into a Mad Hatter (ala Johnny Depp) look so we went thrifting for the perfect purple dress.
A woman in our ward does make-up professionally and was happy to help Naomi out with her makeup. My makeup knowledge is quite, quite limited and anything fancy I know is solidly in costume territory. Shane came to pick her up and brought her a corsage. He is such a great kid. Shane was her date for both big dances and an absolute rockstar for matching her Mad Hatter vibe.
Shane is a keeper. Naomi told him her idea for dressing like Mad Hatters for her Prom and he said, “I think I have a top hat.” My dad also had a top hat so the happy couple was in business.
Turns out they were the only ones at Prom dressed for the theme but Naomi and Shane didn’t care. Her first formals were resounding successes according to my Naomi girl and that makes me so happy.
