Corra Soccer

Back in February our extroverted hummingbird (Corra) decided she wanted to try out for the middle school girls’ soccer team. She has never played before but we worked on a few things and she gave it a go. It really helped her confidence that her current BFF also tried out never having played. Since there weren’t a ton of girls who tried out everyone made it and thus started Corra’s first go around with the world’s most popular sport. Now that the season has wrapped and she has played in 10 games plus a few dozen practices we are happy to report she likes it and had a great time. She was a defender the whole season which suited her just fine. Early on I explained that forwards are super quick and defenders are super strong. She really started to get a feel for where she should be at any given moment and what to do when she actually got the ball.

“I don’t know,” she replies whenever anyone asks her if she is going to play again next year. We will just have to see where her inner hummingbird has led her by then.

  • aside: Number 5 was my soccer number all the years I played and it’s my favorite number…so that’s the one Corra choose.
  • aside aside: Layna was Corra’s biggest fan and watched every game. We worked on proper voice volume when you are super excited OR super disappointed. The season had more losses than wins so Layna and I had lots of good chats about sportsmanship and losing gracefully.
